Ive had my car since May. Ive not had any faults with it, apart from twice when I have started the car, the ESP light has stayed on on the dash. When I turn the car off and back on, the light goes out. This hasnt happened for at least 2 months though.

About a month ago I bought an Autel VAG405 code reader, purely out of interest of how they work and to have a play! At the time, I scanned the car, and everything was clear, no stored codes.

I scanned the car tonight, and under 'instruments', theres a stored fault code.
    It says:

    01298
    Instrument Cluster
    Lamp Test
    Sporadic
    014 - Defective

I have searched on here and googled but cant find what the code specifically means or anything. Could this be anything to do with the ESP light that used to remain on? If so why wasnt it stored before??
A bit confused really as I havent noticed any lamps not illuminating, and if I didnt buy the code reader then I would never know there was even a fault!

    Thanks in advance.

You really need to scan the car with VCDS and use the measuring blocks to see what is, and isn't working.

Are you sure that the esp light lights-up on igntion switch on, because that message indicates that the light itself may be goosed !

Just had a thought - isn't the ESP light on the row of buttons to the right (or left) of the hazard warning switch ? Mine used to come on with ignition switch on but doesn't now work. If you switch off the esp using that button then I think a warning light comes on in the instrument cluster. Press the switch and see if it comes on !!

Thanks for the info and reply Mike. You are right, my ESP light doesnt appear to be faulty at all. It illuminates when the ignition is turned on, then only illuminates when I press the ESP button.
I think I have narrowed it down to the glow plug pre heat light.
I think it does need plugging in to a diagnostic machine. Thankfully, it is under warranty (albeit a Skoda one), so it is booked in next Tuesday.
    Thanks for your help.
