Blimey......45 quid a corner! Most important part of the car....personally would feel a bit safer with something more 'european'....

Sorry to say Nankangs are rubbish, but considering you might have only really use for them for a short period of time, they might serve the purpose,we in Scandinavia, have started to fit the winter tyres to our vehicles this week, and they will be on up to Easter,so quality is alfa omega

I will be leaving the tyres I have on currently, Michellin Primacy HP's. I also like Conti Sport Contacts. Or the Bridgestone P Zero's I think they're called.

Don't rate Pirelli or Dunlops. Maybe it was just me, but I found they both wear quickly and were hoop in the wet!!

Kumhos all the way! Not European but proper good Tyres for fantastic money, and as many corners as I've thrown mine into, they've let slip once, and it was over steer, that's how hard I was pushing!

I will be putting the winter tyres on when the salt hits the road, to keep my good alloys good! Depending on budget wil depend on what I get, but the VW offer is something I'll be looking into.

The insurance issue was cleared up last year by the ABI. As long as you fit OEM alloys or steel wheels and a size of tyre approved by the manufacturer for your exact model then your UK insurer can not class it as a modification.

For snow the narrow is best with a high side wall.

You should have a list of approved sizes in your fuel filler cap. Failing that if you look on mytyres.co.uk and go onto the complete wheels section it should bring up all the approved sizes for your car.

On my Passat I have the original 235/45x17 Conti Sport 3's for summer and steel wheels with 205/55x16 Pirelli Sottozero 2 for winter.

My wife's Fabia has the original 195/55x15's Conti Premium for summer and steel wheels with 165/70X14 Bridgestone LM20 for winter.

My wife's insurer Tesco did try the modification excuse but I had to speak to a manager and point them to the ABI's comments. Most call centre staff have no idea.

    Cheers
