Hi
Just looking for some feedback on the brake pedal 'feel' on 54 plate Touran 1.9TDI.
Here's the story so far;
Car passed MOT at VW dealer in August but advisory for dragging OSR brake. Changed sticking caliper for new , bled off ( two man method), all seemed fine, then noticed the other week, NSR brake dragging and running hot, fitted new caliper to that side, bled off, no more dragging but pedal seems spongy, minimal travel to take up brakes but eventually sinks to floor with engine running and sustained heavy foot pressure, (rock hard with engine off and no servo assist) Car pulls up fine, ABS kicks in as usual.
Both calipers bled off ok, bubbles at first then clear fluid, as expected. Just bled them all again tonight , passing 1 litre of fluid through and not allowing reservoir to drop below min level. No bubbles came through.
I searched forum last night and came across info regarding cycling of ABS pump during bleeding and use of pressurised bleeding. Also spoke to VW Service today asking how they change the brake fluid thinking they might use pressure bleeding system and cycle ABS pump via VAGcom, reply was they sit apprentice in drivers seat and bleed master cylinder and 500ml off each caliper in conventional way, as I've just done. I'm reluctant to put into dealership to pay them for what I've just done.
I've also got a pal with 55 plate passat TDI with same pedal 'feel'. As this is my wifes car and I only drive it occasionally I'm wondering if it was always like this and I never noticed until I did the calipers.
VW dealer changed fluid last year ( now presume 2 man method !)as part of major service, car has 58,000 on it and full dealer SH. Anyone else got any experience of this? I've got 05 plate polo without ESP and pedal feels hard as you might expect
Cheers
