    Hi there,

I have a golf MK2 16v GTi. Just recently the power steering has become difficult, when turning left or right it sort of stutters and is difficult, its more noticeable when it is raining. I have noticed thats its more difficult when turning left. Feels tight and hard. Do you have any ideas what it could be? Cheers

The belt is loose and needs replacing and the water splash cover is missing. If your car is a late bumper model this is still available I think, under the part number 191 825 250 A 01C and is quite easy to fit if you order the fasteners at the same time. I can’t remember how much they are but I think they are less than £20.

The cover attaches to a bracket at the base of the front panel with a self tapping screw, clips into the inner wing shield with a clip and goes around the front cross member and is retained at the back by a screw into a plastic nut in the chassis leg so the engine type will not affect it but it being a 6A would have made no difference anyway. You can class it as a 9A now it has been converted to transverse installation use by using a 9A oil pump and matching sump, I hope you removed the spigot bearing in the end of the crank.

    Hi there.
Its a little off topic, but i need some help regarding power steering pipes.
Its actually for a 1.8 16v corrado, but i think its the same PS rack in a mk 2 golf, hence im writing this here!
Basically, the pipes have rotten through, but the rack itself is fine. All i need is a new pair of pipes, and im back on the road!
The only thing is, ive had a couple of quotes for new pipes, and the cheapest is £180 for both, which is ridiculous!
Does anyone know where i can get new pipes cheaper?
Or maybe what size thread the male plug fitting on one end is? I think its 7/16 to 1/4 pipe, but am not sure. If so, i might be able to make up some hydraulic hoses instead of steel pipes.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Dan

They are not available as a spare part, only with a full rack-someone could make money by producing a batch.
