Hi guys, I have a A3 1.9TDI 2000 and I am trying to remove the oil filter.

It looks that it is very hard to unscrew it !.

Could you please give me some hints, e.g. is it clockwise or counterclock ? Is there a special tool to do it (I am using a "Oil Filter wrench") ?

    Please help !!

    Thanks

There is a special tool (tool number 3417, available from any VW/Audi dealer) but a strap wrench should move it. It is anticlockwise. The only problem with not using the VW tool is not being able to set the required torque.

If the filter is on so tight that a strap wrench keeps slipping or won't remove it, and there's enough access to do this, you could try getting a very long, strong flat blade screwdriver and puncturing the filter all the way through and then use it to turn it. A messy job, and a last resort - I had to do this on an old Fiat 127 many many years ago

Can't do that on a Golf 4 TDI, it's an element inside a cast ally housing with a screw on plastic top.
