Ideas on Clutch replacement........

Thinking on this - as done nearly 90k The clutch may need to be replaced. does anyone have any ideas on cost and such? Id imagine that this is pretty pricey so would be looking for suggestions in scotland......

COst is about £800 fitted. It's a big job. Not sure why you would think the clutch needs to be changed now? I have seen them go to 150k with no problems (and probably further). Oh, and if you change the clutch, you would be mad not to change the flywheel at the same time.

Im not to sure just got a feeling of a little hesitance when pulling away a couple of times, that was all and thought hmmm clutch?

You will feel a change in the way clutch responds when you press the pedal, if it needs replacing. As Josh said earlier they last a lot longer than 90k and even on their last legs they ll last at least a 1000 miles or so. My other car had a squeak when i pressed clutch pedal around 98k. Garage said i need it changing soon. 2 and half year later and 41k miles later it was still working fine without any issues. Then again I could have just changed it and forgot about it completely. Its your choice at the end of the day. Garage will be more than happy to take that money off you.

Juddering will be bacause of the flywheel, and that usually dissapears when you press the clutch in. The only way to tell if the clutch is slipping is the presence of clutch slip. That is when the revs are rising but the speed does not go up proportionately. My dad has a diesel passat who the dealers said the clutch needed replacing at 85k. He's now done 166k and he has nor had to change the clutch!

hesitation when pulling away i think is an engine management feature to avoid clutch abuse. mine does not pull away quickly either. actually missus's ford ka would leave it in the dust while pulling away. It felt strange when i got it but now i think im getting used to it.

That makes no sense. It's not hesitation that is a management feature, it's restricting torque through the ECU map. And yes, this limitation is to avoid clutch abuse.

Have you car remapped like I did to see the difference. You will only nuke your clutch if you act like a traffic light champion (not probable for the majority of A6 owners).

Everything else I said about clutch symptoms still stands.

Hesitation when pulling away is not the clutch. If you think you are experiencing it, you either hit the torque limit in first, or you have some other fault.

Ta lads fell a bit better now lol. Ill keep my focus on it and see if I can better describe whats happening. Its not that Im pushing it on its just pulling away from a dead stop - and no its not the handbrake either....its just felt ---- different.

I did mean that it is a pre programmed feature which seems like hesitation on car's part. Still feels like car hesitates as I had a 2.0l tdi car before and you could give it proper boot in first gear. This one doesnt. I could be hitting the torque limiter i dont know. Yeah I could get it remapped but that option Im gonna save for future.

It felt a lot different for me when i changed the car. i am just learning to do it gently with plenty of room to pull out at a junction to avoid any surprises.
