The wife has come into work this morning and during her journey the Engine Fault light started to flash with a message “Engine Fault – Workshop” and with a minute or two the Exhaust Warning Lamp also come on constantly – so about to book the car into the dealers to be checked but has anyone else come across this – just worried about being ripped off!

I think that's probably a failed DPF regen, if you have time take it up the M27 to Chichester and try to maintain 70-80 mph, this should get it hot enough to burn off the blockage, no need to gun it, iirc the best speed is 68 mph to achieve this, if this fails then VW will attempt a forced regen, you don't want to watch this in progress btw if that fails then it's a new DPF and take the Kleenex with you, you'll need em.

It could also be the sensor fault as well, if you can't get the light out, hope for this as it's cheaper than a new filter.

Thanks, My views the morning was DPF so I did a run from Portsmouth to the roundabout at Liss on the A3 and back again holding 4th gear over 3k revs and just shy of 70 - its made no difference to the lights and that annoying PING! - although the cars still drives fine.

That's actually the posh name for the loud pedal electronics, although looking at it it seems to be two ends, one at the pedal and probably a receiving unit bolted to the engine somewhere, I would do some searching before booking it in myself it could just be old Miss Heavyboot has knocked something off or a perished hose/wire that runs to or from it.

Suspect it's at the front of the engine, insert the key and listen for the whine you get before the car starts.

Yep RAC man and his little laptop thinks its at the engine end and it is suck in the open position hence why the car will still drive - had a quote for the part from local dealer £207.71 inc for the part - just awaiting a price for fitting as well.

At least it isn't a £1200 filter, I would imagine you are looking at £300 £350 all in with fitting.

You should get a proper code read done as that P- code is a waste of time. It sounds like the antishudder flap has broken. This is fairly common. A proper code read will give the correct code and make diagnostics easier.
