Now this may be the daftest question I've ever asked. The car is a B5 1.9 TDi The only photo I can find is of a B6 model. I'd describe the outlet location as being just behind the gear box mounting in the centre tunnel close to but more or less above the N/S drive shaft. Am I right? Some seem to imply that you can gain access from the engine bay but I can't see how on this car.

I had the usual problem of fresh water running down the bulkhead and onto the Pax side carpet earlier on this afternoon. I can see where the water is escaping from (a tube with a circular foam collar) From checking out this and other forums I'm certain that I have a blocked evaporator drain. I'm wondering if I can gain access from the outside and use some plastic strimmer cable/wire to free any blockage, rather that ripping half the interior apart. This trick works very well for unblocking sunroof drains with much less risk of damage compared to prodding about with an old speedo inner cable! I normally use 3-4mm thick cable/wire. Or is there an easier way?

All of the plenum/scuttle drain plugs are clear and there is no standing water in this area. As it was hissing down with rain and I'm not at home, with only a jack with no axle stands to support the car, I decided to leave well alone and ask the experts. I assume that once jacked up I'll be able to spot the blocked drain without problems.

I will await replies with interest. Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

    Kind Regards.

    Paul.

Water ingress into these A4's (or most VAG cars judging by comments on the internet and right here on this forum) can be a bit of a pain. I was thinking of painting my car black and adding a few torpedo tubes and a periscope. if the MOD see it perhaps they'll comission it as a low cost alternative to the Astute class sub! After all, it gives good MPG figures.

Have you managed to dry your interior at all "Zamboni?" Mine is sodden. The water lurks in the 50mm or so of foam Audi install under the carpet. I thought I'd got most of it out. Then I pressed down on the foam! There's enough water trapped in there to refill Windermere.

I'm back home at last so I can get this A4 up on the ramp and have a fiddle underneath and see if I can unblock this PITA drain. Strangly I had no water ingress at all during the drive home from Exmouth to the midlands yesterday. In spite of the air con being turned on. Knowing my luck the drain has cleared itself, and all I'll do today is waste my time! such is life.

    Kind Regards.
