Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on this for me. I have a 2001 2.5 tdi quattro that seems to be giving electric problems.

There's a clicking sound coming from the rear passenger side door and the windows seem to jutter whilst going up and down. I had it with an auto electrician who was unable to fix it, am out over £100 now and no further along.

Have noticed since I got it back today that the speedo lights are now flickering too. Has anyone experienced this?

    Many thanks in advance.

Lift up the passengers floor carpet and see if it is wet under there.

Thanks for the reply. Have checked under the carpet and it is dry. There is an electrical box down there that seems to be making a clicking sound.

Is this an 8D or 8E A4? I have just noticed this is in the 8D section but is a 2001.

I'm not really sure to be honest. It's the model from 01 - 04/05.

Sorry, misread that about it being the up to 2005 type, feeling under the weather, it will be an 8E so the controller is under the carpet, it may be suffering from water damage or corrosion to the wiring. Did you lift up the 2 inch thick sound deadening? The picture is of a Superb 1 but the system is the same. The red/black wires often corrode.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply with photos. The auto spark showed me the box under the passenger seat which was making a clicking sound. He said he checked the loom with all the wires and checked drivers side door and soldered a few wires on it. He had said that the passenger side electric window button had a bit of corrosion on the cables, but he didn't do anything about that. The car seems to be getting worse now. Today the cigarette lighter is intermittently working and not working, and the speedo lights flash on and off, windows barelygo up and down. I think something may be about to pack up in it. What would you advise is the best way forward? I love the car, but can't afford to be out major money fixing it. Thanks again .

That sounds like a bad earth but it could be difficult to find it. Problems like that mean just sitting down with the wiring diagram and a multimeter and working through until you find the fault. I imagine the problem is going to be in the coupling station on the left A pillar or the one in the water box under the windscreen.
