We have a set of genuine Audi roofbars for an A6 C5 but the parents in law who passed them on have lost the keys. My wife went to Amersham Audi who helpfully sold her new locks and keys but neglected to explain how to get the original locks out. There's nothing written on the locks to give a clue as to a particular key template. Can anyone help either with suggestions about keys or how to remove the locks. The locks are unfortunately in the locked position.

    Thanks for any advice.

My Thule bars have the key number stamped on the outside face of the barrel, so if I need new keys I just phone Thule and give them the number. My old VW bars were the same I think. Are you sure the numbers aren't on yours? You may have bought new locks unnecessarily.

I'm sure that we have bought new locks unnecessarily but I've been all over the bars, the manual and the box and I can't see any code stamped anywhere, just an Audi part number which in EKTA appears to be non-specific. Similar to your Thules, I have a 2 sets of Atera and a set of volvo-branded Thule bars and they have the key code stamped in the face of the lock but not these ones.

I did the same and bought new locks; it was cheaper than new keys. To remove the locks there is a small circlip holding the latch on the end of the key barrel. Remove the circlip to pull the end of the rack out and then remove the lock assy. To do this, with the rack upside down and a small screw driver to ping the circlip off
    Regards

    Andy.

Great thanks Andy, is this possible with the locks in the locked position? I can see the latch on the end of the assy but I can't see the circlip, I'll have another look.

Yes locks in locked position, I cannot remember exactly the method but i could remove the circlips (just) which then allows the locks to be removed.

Perfect, you have to slide the 'feet' as far into the middle as possible then you can just get a jeweller's screwdriver in to pop the circlips out, then the locks slide out. All done! Thanks again Andy, I would have given up before I had worked it out if you hadn't told me.
