I'm thinking of buying a Passat 2.0TDI, and have been looking through reviews online. My other options are Audi A3 or A4.
Apparently the Passat engine changed to a common rail in 2008. How can I tell if I'm getting the new engine when I look at a car - I'm wary of trusting the registration date in case of "old stock" being sold by a dealer when new.
The only other problem I've heard of is a sticky handbrake, id there anything else I should be looking for?

    Cheers!

I guess I should have searched the forum before posting, I've found the answer I was looking for re the CR engine!
Any more buying advice would be welcome though!

i guess the plastic cover of the engine - the PD lines are straight ,the CR are on an angle that to give you an idea not to be fooled by dealers.Good luck with your purchase, search good the forums with issues of your options.

If you don't want loads of space i would personally go for the a4 the LED strip at the front and back plus the inside looks and quality is above the passat.

Buy a CR if you are going to, the PD is too potentially problematic.

I'll chip in with my usual "make sure you get both 'keys'."

Thanks for all your advice. Now does anyone know if the Jetta got the CR engine at the same time?
