    Hi

I just bought my daughter a 2005 Beetle with 96k on it, drove it home 159 miles without any problems.Next day she goes to work and on the way a light comes on (Engine with Lightning going through it) not flashing just on.I have an ebay u281 and it tells me that

    17811 EGR flow deviation
    16514 O2 Sensor Circ.,Bank1-Sensor1 Malfunction
    17811 EGR flow deviation

I'm trying to save her money and at the same time the garage fixed it by apparently fixing a leak in a pipe and cleaning connectors on the Lambda.

It's come back on today but the garage have said it could be one of two things that cost around £150 each but they cannot guarantee success.

    Any ideas please?

Will it knacker the car up if I just keep knocking out the light? any lasting damage?

    Is this common?

    many Thanks in advance

    Stew

Thanks for the feedback! Perhaps no one knew how to answer your query?

You say three codes, but I only see two.

Is there any loss of power? Does it idle, does it hesitate?

17811 is 17811/P1403/005123 - EGR System: Regulation Deviation (click to read more)

It usually means your EGR valve is clogged - they can be cleaned but it's probably better to replace. As the name suggests the valve recirculates your exhaust gasses.

With a faulty EGR you'll more than likely fail an MOT emissions test

16514 is Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1: Malfunction in Circuit

There's no harm (in my opinion) in clearing the codes but you're only masking a problem that wont get better without intervention.

Do you have any comeback with the seller?

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

    Very detailed reply, many thanks!

It's having a new Bosch Lambda fitted tomorrow so hopefully the probs stop there. I'll google the EGR location and give a good clean anyway.

Other than the light it runs absolutely fine if a little Juicy.

I could have done the Lambda myself but if its stuck in i could be there all day and the garage have agreed to fit my Bosch part for £35 so leaving it to them.

    Is the egr clean easy?

Many thanks again, thought everyone had died or didn't like me

    Thankyou
