Hi All,

I'm experiencing some radio reception issues with my car and I wondered if anyone else has had similar experience. I tend to listen to one radio station in perticular (106.1 in the north west area)

I only noticed the problem when I switched on the rear window demister, at which point I lost almost all FM radio reception (except for Radio 1 that is). The strange thing is, when I look in the command menus at radio signal strength, the display says the radio signal actually gets stronger when the demister is on, compared with it switched off. It's going in to the dealership tomorrow for investigation ... (not just this but a fuel leak too)

Sorry Greg, not an answer but another question !! I saw an old post of yours about DAB, did you get any resolution about retrofitting a DAB receiver ?? My dealer has been very unhelpful despite the brochure for the RNS 315 saying it was DAB 'compatible'
I can't seem to get an answer to this issue anywhere and a VW aftermarket co. quoted me £1000 for a new head unit !!!!! Surely a DAB receiver must be able to be hooked up to the RNS 315 ??

No loss of FM on mine with the rear window demist on.

I took the car in to have the problem investigated and they ended up fitting a completely new rear windscreen which seems to have solved the problem. So essentially, that answers that question ... the FM aerial is in the rear screen and was faulty when the car was supplied.

Regarding the DAB situation, I enquired about having the DAB aerial retrofitted by VW and the answer has been a resounding no (from my local dealerships at least). I also went to a local audio specialist near to where I live (Car and Home Stereo in Macclesfield) who siad they can supply and fit an external (rear) window mounted DAB aerial for about £100. It's the aerial they fit to older cars when the stereos are upgraded to include DAB. However, they dont have the ability to activate the DAB option on the stereo itself ... you would need to get hold of (or know somone with) a VCDS cable and software to enable this option before having the aerial fitted. I intend on having this done soon but I've just not got round to it yet! As soon as its done, I'll post up details

ok, so I took the plunge and had the aftermarket DAB aerial fitted. I've also got access to a VCDS cable. Once it was all fitted and enabled, I now have crystal clear DAB.

So, to finally answer the question, all you need to have DAB is to have the aerial retrofitted (about £90) and to enable DAB using VCDS
