Started thinking about winter wheels already and just wondered if anyone has fitted 16" alloys to their 3.0tdi ?

I just called my local Audi garage and they are selling winter tyres (dunlop 225 50 17) on 5 spoke 17 inch alloys for £1,100!!! Mytyres.co.uk are stating the size for winter tyres for the Audi B8 is 225 55 16. I really do not know what is best to do as know the Audi option is a rip off.

On the 3.0TDi on the A6, it has larger brakes than the other engines and I'm sure this would be similar on the A4 3.0TDi. I think the smallest I've seen a 3.0TDi A6 is 17".

I was only speaking about my 3.2 quattro not the 3.0 TDi as I thought they were the same. Just checked Mytyres and they say that 16 inch steel wheels would fit on the 3.0 TDi (see below)

Not that I'm saying trust (or don't trust) mytyres as i'm not sure what the best size to go for is either. One thing to remember is that 16 inch wheels will give you less clearence from the underbody of the car to the snow so could mean getting stuck more on 16's also more chance of the front spoiler hitting into curbs when parking as you will be lower. Anyway I will stop rambling

Someone told me (I forget who it was) that because of the bigger discs on the more powerful cars the smaller wheels wouldn't fit over them.

As you say with the body being lower you would get stuck more and probably damage something along the way.
