There might be some laws/rules about matching sizes, I'm not sure.
But... it might upset the ABS, traction control and other clever electronics as it will detect a difference in rotation speed between front and back. Best to keep them all the same I would say.

Sounds like your wheel offset is too low (ie. the wheels are sticking out too far). You can change the profile and wids of the tyre to give ia a "Stretched" look, but you would have to keep the rolling radius of the combo within the limits for speedo accuracy!. In the UK I think the MOT rules at the moment only require that there is No contact between the chassis/suspension parts and the Wheels/Tyres.

If you can jack the car up and lower it onto some planks of wood under two diametrically opposite wheel stations (ie left front/right rear) then this will simulate a MAX LOAD and you will be able to see how serious the rubbing is, Perhaps you can get away with arch rolling or getting the arches pulled-out slightly (get it done proffessionaly or there is a high chance that the paint finish will be damaged!)

Why do you not try helping yourself!! and explainining exactly what car you have and what wheels you have!!

A generic question will get a generic answer.

Sounds well explained to me, he has an avant with 19 inch wheels with 245/40 tyres.

I think you should be running 235 35 19. That's what I have. I reckon the offset of the wheels may be too low. However a a 245/40 will have quite considerable rolling circumference than a 235/35. You should be fine with those tyres.

He has an 06 s line avant. He asked for what is the common size of tyres for a 19 inch wheel. 245/40 is a very big tyre as stock is 235/40/18 so he should be fine with 235/35/19.

I would say that is the most common size, which he asked.

    Thanks

I have a set of 255 19 inch tyres in my garage of a 2010 A4, Excuse me for asking for a bit of CLARIFICATION on what car and wheel type you have but to be quite honest I have lost interest because you assume that EVERYONE in the world knows what you are talking about, whereas "He has an (a) 06 s-line Avant" my Balls are not crystal, and if you do not give the required details then GOOD LUCK!

opps sorry didn't mean to upset anyone.. just wanted to know the most common tyre size for these wheels. the rears do not rub on the arches the noise i can hear from the back when going over speed humps is a worn ball joint.. when i replace the tyres i will get 235/40/19 instead of 245 as 235 seem the more common size.. thanks for all the help and once again my apologies if i seemed rude..
