    Hello,

When on full lock at low speeds, the steering on my 05 A4 creaks. The creaking starts as lock is applied, but does not continue. It is a creak rather than a knock or a squeal. It has been into a reputable Audi specialist and they can't see anything wrong with the steering components. I have noticed that the steering doesn't self-centre, but not sure if this is a new thing or not! I wondered if anyone else had experienced this and found what fixes it.

    Cheers,

    ian.

It is good that you got problem checked, but it must still be a concern due to not finding the cause.
I think I would look for a second opinion, possibly from body shop or similar.
Was the steering rack replaced at any time? (only ideas as possibilities)

Inspect for broken ends on springs.

No, it's on its original rack.

so get someone to turn the wheel and have a nose about, see if you can identify where this creak is coming from. is it from the steering wheel itself or behind the wheels. can you get it jacked up or on ramps and do the same from underneath. creaks are often bushes in the wishbones moving or as mentioned above, top mounts. spray some wd40 onto likely suspects and see if it stops.
