    Hi guys.

I looked at a car the other day but the mileage was a little bit high (138K)

Its a '56' plate 3.0 tdi s line tip with a full Audi main dealer history.

It drives and feels absolutly fine and overall is in tip top condition.

Looking at the steering wheel and drivers seat their is pretty much almost no wear what so ever, so this says to me that it will be mainly 'motorway miles'.?

should the mileage be a concern.?

As long as the car had a full Audi history I wouldn't be worried about the mileage.

I once drove a C5 A6 with near 200k on the clock and it drove and felt just like my 60k car.

For the age and mileage covered it does sound like it's lived it's life on the motorway doing stress free miles. 70 in 6th gear on the 3.0TDi is just touching 2000rpm so there is no real wear doing those miles on the motorway.

My car done 33k in it's first year before I got it and it's just about to touch 73k (Mar 2012)

    Could be a bargain.

My old 2.5 TDi had 230K on it when I got rid. It was still an absolute pleasure to drive and in many ways I wish I had kept it. 40K a year of almost all motorway miles. Even at that age there was not appreciably more wear on the driver's seat than when I bought it at 50K.

Just turned over 120k miles in my one - no issues to report :-)

As long as its been well looked after, the mileage is not of any real concern (well not me anyway). I'd happily by a car that had been properly looked after with high mileage on it.

Mines done 100k in 3 years and is sweet as a nut. So long is gets an annual oil change and you follow the service regime, it should be fine. Just have a little fund handy for the invertible wear and tear. I have a rainy day fund of about £1k which I intend to keep topped up. So far I have not had to se it at all. The idea of the fund is to deal with some of the inevitable things that at some point are likely to happen:

    1. Suspension bushes give up - at this point I would change all the bushes and suspension arms in one go
    2. Clutch fails - at this point I will change the clutch and flywheel together
    3. Turbocharger failure - probably due to wear and tear. I would be inclined to change this myself as I am mechanically minded.

To be honest, I am only really worried about 1 or 2, but that is just the consequence of driving any car to huge miles.

I like buying cars with high motorway miles - especially ex-leasing company cars as they're well maintained and have had all the early niggles sorted. On the 3.0tdi, other than the service history, check it's had the intake manifold swirl flaps replaced @ 80k if its a pre2008 model. Common problem with the linkage wearing and costs £2000 to fix.

One of the most problematic cars I've had is a Vauxhall bought with 25k. Never having another Vauxhall!

Never heard of someone having problem with the intake manifold swirl flaps. Are these in the turbo?

    Thanks

Oh yes, very common problem on Audi's, BMWs and Mercs. They're on the intake manifold. Check out Phil A's post here though for a quick fix
    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...-Swirl-Control

Problem on BMW and mercs is different though with the flaps disintegrating and falling into the engine.

My 2.0 tdi Multi Tronic S Line has just gone past 135k running like a beauty! I was concerned 2 years ago when I read about some of the multi tronic gear box issues. But mines not required anything other than routine servicing and tyres.

I would like to change cars probably next year now, when this will have circa 175k on the clock!
