Hello. keep up the good work guys. I am an intermittent judderer in an M reg avant tdi, seems to be when I ask it to move the motor doesn't like it. I have good tick over and my problem is on and off and only happens like a quick judder, let go of accelerator and it keeps running fine. I will endeavour to clean up things on the inlet manifold but what you guys are telling me, and probably many others who do not post on here, is that these motors have got plenty of life in them yet! I will spend money on subframe and wishbone bushes and cv joints then!

I have been juddering for about a year now with rough idle as well.

I did a test with unregistered VAGCOM and all I got was this 1 fault. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the above problems:

    Address 01: Engine
    Controller: 028 906 021 D
    Component: 1,9l R4 EDC SG D21
    Coding: 00000
    Shop #: WSC 00000
    1 Fault Found:
01117 - Generator Terminal DF Load Signal
    27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
    Readiness: N/A

Don't know if this is relevant to your problem but it sounds very similar to the one I had on my '95 Audi 80 Avant TDI. It started with quite severe jerking right on 3000 revs and I could either drive through it or slack off to come out of it. It's only when the problem started to get worst and would happen anywhere between the 2000 and 3000 rev range that I decided to get it fixed. Turned out to a faulty microchip on an injector and everything's good now. How do you post a new thread on this forum? I've now got an intermittant problem with my electric windows and roof

Yeah Most People Had Narrowed It Down To The Diesel Pump... How Much Was The New Microchip?

Might Get It Done If It's Not Ridiculous!

I removed the number 12 fuse and as most other people experienced, the judder went away. I plugged it back in and the judder intensity is now 1/4 of what it was. It will probably come back but I will wait and see.

I find driving in wet conditions intensifies the judder problem.

It's a little expensive to replace on a 'maybe' Kris and I was just lucky to be able to get hold a good ex Audi mechanic who guessed the problem just through experience before he even driven it. I haven't read right through this thread so I don't know if you tried an Audi mechanic or not, but that's where I went after reading this and another forum and came away thinking it was probably a faulty MAF, which didn't turn out to be the case. Anyway the cost was about £260.00 in total, £195.00 for a new injector with chip (on an exchange basis) and the rest was labour and the diagnostics test (which didn't help). Although he wouldn't be pinned down, I tried to get him to tell me how often it needed replacing and he thought I might be on my second at 137k, so maybe every 70k or so these things need replacing? Before you go lavishing that sort of money on it I'd just like to repeat my symptons; at 3000 revs (on the dot) it would go through a violent spasm, almost if I run over a large object. I could drive through it or slack off and the car would return to normal. The problem got worst when it started to happen anywhere in the 2000 to 300 rev range. I hope this helps and just a little footnote. I think my Audi (Avant) is brilliant for a number of reasons and I plan to keep it for fair few years yet (until it finally dies I suppose) so I'm prepared to spend what it takes to keep it going. I consider this more cost effective than the chopping and changing I did prevously. Good luck and I hope you sort it.

Don't know. All I know is that it's the one with the microchip attached.

Hi New to the Group and also suffering the fate of the juddering, mine appears to be similar but not the same, Our '93 Audi 80 Tdi Avant will drive fine round town for weeks, as soon as we take it on a run and get about 25 miles from home and then we get a major judder, always when the vehicle is warm. The other day i disconnected the Air mass meter to try and eliminate the fault to no avail, this only resulted when plugging back to bring on the Engine managament light on. Pulled over switched the engine off and then back on the light went out and the problem went for another week.

One other thing to not is that it lacks a bit of turbo power pnly in third gear all other gesrs are fine at the same rev range.

Can you tell me would it record the fault in the systems memory, if so i will get it checked. The problem is now you get the feel that their is a slight judder for some time afterwards but then it goes, the fault might not return for a day / week realy strange, to be honest it went away for a while when the wife put a tenners worth of unleaded in, not sure if it was just luck or not.

Sorry to bleet on, but is there an exact cure otherwise the wife wants me to get shot of the old girl.

    Regards Spilleddwarf
