I've driven a B7 2.0Tdi for 3-4 years now but starting to consider whether to go for a B8 petrol this time. I do an average of 12k miles per year (15k max) and a 70%-30% mix between motorway and city.

The 2.0Tdi acceleration is fine with me so I guess the 1.8 would satisfy my 0-60 needs - I'm a fairly chilled out driver and more likely keep the car running in the lowest gear possible

Question is MPG, and whether it will be a major player in my decision. I've searched through the forum and seen quite a few real world MPG readings for the 2.0s but curious as to what the 1.8 owners get from theirs

Mid 30's would be acceptable but not sure how realistic this would be from a petrol so just wanted to see what you peeps were getting :-)
VAGs, everyone should be driving one

I averaged 40+ in a 120ps 1.8TFSI on a reasonable run but it was soooo slooooooooooooow. Like the 160 1.8, it will however chip to 230bhp for £450 but i bet it then doesnt do 40mpg
