    Hi

I own a 2000 passat tdi sport (estate) and the warning buzzer no longer sounds if the lights are left on when the key is removed and the door opened. VW serviced my car today and said the sensor in the driver'd door may be faulty, but when I open my door the interior lights come on - does this not mean the sensor is ok? If its not the sensor in the door what else should be checked?

    My Passat also does this.

You will read lots of reports of the door lock micro-switch being faulty which is the main cause of this problem and is very common.

Mine however does as yours does, the alarm, door and courtessy lights work as they should.

However I don't get a peep from the car, normally you get 'handbrake on', 'low fuel', 'low temp' etc etc with a little chime from the cluster, mine doesn't do any of this.

I've got vagcom have done various output tests and the conclusion is that the buzzer / chime itself is dead.

I'm not that bothered about the info chimes as they can sometimes be annoying but the lights on reminder is vital. The only solution I can see to my problem is either a new cluster which is big £££'s or fitting a new chime unit. I've done a half hearted search on this online but it yeilded nothing hence I've not progressed a fix as yet. Please let me know how you get on or if you find out if the replacement of the chime is possible

    Cheers for that,

this confuses me even more now, the chime for the low fuel, service period etc is still working and I can't remember if the "lights on" chime was the same or if it used a different buzzer. Can anyone who has a fully working system tell me?

    Ah,

When you do output tests, there are two buzzers, which I think are two circuits via the same buzzer.

In which case I'd look into to door lock issue again on yours.

Did you ever resolve this issue as my 2001 passat has just started not buzzing when lights are left on. Ended up with a flat battery . I'd be grateful for any advice on how to resolve without it costing big £. All the other features seem to work except for the indicator and headlights left on warning beep.
