So after calling vw to come look at my car since it was in a limp home mode with loss of power they replaced dpf filter. Next day same light comes on with another and engine revs randomly, very lumpy, sounds like misfire, 10.5k miles the worst car iv ever bought. If your thinking of buying a golf tdi remember that you cant do short journeys or else car will break.

Vw now do not know how to fix my car, nice one vw uk.

Your engine is not broken , you have a fault. The fact that the first attempt to diagnose the problem was not successful is annoying but why not do the usual thing and make the service managers eyes water rather than indulge in an irrelevant bleat

I agree with the above. What about the other 140,000 people that bought a golf last year? Are they all prohibited from driving it short journeys? Your post refers to your individual car - not them all. A friend of mine had to have a brand new engine in his s3 at just 5,000 miles because his con rods were shot. I'm relatively sure not all s3's break before 5k.

Tbh ive always been under the impression, if you dont do long distance dont get a diesel. Im not sure why this has been forgotten, or people are getting suckered by the marketing. But even if you do get a diesel for short/town driving. It clearly states you need to drive the car for a while every week or so, just so the dpf can regenerate.

Youre lucky they are trying to fix it, and not slapping you with 'driver error, your fault for not conforming to warranty conditions'.

As above you have a fault, no doubt not helped by driving the car several times with the dpf light on. From recollection the car was parked up for quite a period over winter, and it's use is all rush hour slow speed traffic. Given you've only covered 10.5k in ca 18months I'd say a tdi isn't right for your usage. Doesn't matter what badge the bonnet wears modern diesels with dpfs are designed to be used with high exhaust temperatures.

I've said this several numerous times in he last 18 months VW dealers should be asking buyers what use they put the car to before taking orders; it's just good practice for buyers and dealers !

Good news is that you're covered by warranty (unless vw get awkward about you ignoring the warning light) in which case the car will be fixed FOC.

The 1.6tdi engine isnt the most exciting product anddoesnt deliver in many ways (performance, economy etc) but it's not undeniable. Mines not let me down in 29k miles.

I went into the dealer to buy a petrol 1.4tsi but since they told me I was looking at a 6 month wait I went for the tdi which was 2 weeks as I needed a reliable new car, thought a golf was just that.

I'm sorry but it's not acceptable that this car has a light that comes on every few hundred miles in which time I get the same economy as my 3 litre twin turbo petrol car. Nobody mentioned to be when I bought the car that listen mate this car is only really made for long distance drives. I have my other car for that and needed a city runner.

Vw have told me now they do not know what is wrong with the car as they have replaced some sensors and problem persists. They have the car just now and I have no courtesy car and no date when it will be fixed.

In my eyes that is very poor service from vw given I payed around 17k for this car which should still be like new.

It's all good having a warranty but not much use if they do not have sufficient training on the car to fix it. They admitted that the dpf issue is a design fault with mk6 tdi cars and admit it is a through and through warranty claim.

So I'm without my daily driver and vw tell me I can't have a courtesy car until two more weeks, I hope they do not take that long to fix my car.

I'm sorry if people think I am being unfair but I feel as though I have been sold a car which is not fit for purpose and should never have been allowed to hit the Market with such obvious design faults.

Sales people will always give you the shaft if it means getting some money on the books - its all about reading between the lines. Ive heard similar complaints about tdis and wrong application too from loads of different makes. All have the same dpf troubles. Perhaps the sales technique is underhanded, but you have to watch out for the sharky salesmen from any showroom.

I would be stamping my feet for a petrol as an exchange if i was you :P

The sales people can't tell you everything you might need to know about a car. And what might be important to you might not be important to someone else. I don't really understand why people always want to be spoon fed information all the time. You learn more by doing your own research.
