I drove an B7 RS4 Avant the other day to help a friend that has a bodyshop out when manouvering the cars about, and after went to take it to get washed.

I noticed that the front parking sensors come on automatically, and that the parking system light on the button was always on, even when the car was started again.

Is there a way of doing this on the B8, the rear obviously comes on automatic when selecting reverse, but the front doesnt come when approaching pillars, etc. like it does on the RS4 I drove.

    Anyone know?

The car would need to be fitted with front parking sensors to work.

The Q5, A4 and A8 I had on loan had the front sensors and the display appeared on the Mmi screen along with the button to manually switch it on/off.

Also the system automatically switches off after you have reached around 6mph moving forward.

I wouldnt be asking if I didnt have front sensors

Seriously though, I have the button which means I can turn the fronts (and rears) on when approaching something, but on the RS4 the APS came on by itself on the front when coming close to something (below 10 km/h - 6 mph).

    Sorry, I misread your question

Not sure but a VCDS buff may have a solution which can be enabled or modified within the parking system module.

From what I can remember none of my loan cars done this instead of turning it on manually as you said.

Thanks Chris, Im assuming it might be something to be enabled in VCDS, but for now Ive only found that you can up the speed where it switches the system off.

I know for sure that the RS4 wont have VCDS mods, as the owner is an elderly guy who isnt in to any of that.

    phatAvant,

I have front and rear sensors (Parking Plus) on a B8 and, as far as I know, there is no way to activate the front parking sensors without pressing the button. However, if you have recently engaged reverse the parking sensors will stay on (front and rear) until you have exceeded a pre-set forward speed. Have looked through the MMI and there aren't any settings related to that either.

To be honest, I'm not sure why you would want it on all the time - whenever you were in stop start traffic it would drive you crazy as it would keep telling you you have cars all around you!

on the new A6 they are on by default and you can change all the settings in MMI - will have a look in my latest loaner A4 to see if there are any settings although I found it really annoying on the A6 as everytime you moved the car it was beeping at something.

You're both right, it might be more of wanting the option to have it as I noticed a B7 had it, so probably started thinking why cant mine do that.

I know what you mean - the option might never be used but you want the option anyway!

More or less, yes. But I would put it on for when the other half drives the car
