Petrol gauge Problem

Hi,
I really need some help as the petrol gauge on my 98 A3 is reading 0 all the time, Also I have noticed the display in general has become very dim and the brightness control makes no difference. What could be wrong with it?

I had a problem with my temp gauge; the whole display had to be changed. Apparently this is quite a common problem. Mine was sorted out under warranty, so I've no idea what a new unit might cost.

Yes , I also have this problem with the petrol guage.
Sadly fixing it is likely to cost a fair bit, so tricky to get at.
I have resigned myself to monitoring fuel bought and fuel consumption until I can afford to have someone pull the thing out!
