Help before I buy a 2.4 v6

Hi,

I've checked online and on this site and really can't find out anything about this.

I'm looking at a 1999 2.4 Tiptronic. It's a seriously nice car.

My question... does it have a timing belt or timing chain? it says it has belts changed at 23k and 61k by Audi, this certainly hasn't been a timing belt.

also... other than water on the passenger floor, anything else i should look out for

It is a timing belt. usually at 6 years or 80K miles. There are also belts for the A/C and one for the Steering Servo and an Auxiliary Serpentine belt. The wet passenger floor is a problem. It is most probably blocked up drain bungs (2) in the plenum chamber. Search on Plenum Chamber on the forum there are guides on how to sort this. Be aware there is an ECU called the CCM Convenience Control Module in an ABS box in a recess under the passenger footwell carpet. This can be damaged by the water as can the cable harness and connector. Regards Peter

good solid engine, though they can leak through the cam end gaskets which are fiddly to change.

mine is at 155K so just in the process of changing the cam belts again.
