I currently drive a Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0 pd diesel with 6 speed DSG box. Over 6 years it has been faultless and the DSG a delight.
Now thinking of changing to a Golf 1.4 Tsi + DSG. Welcome owners views of this combination, particularly relating to the reputed "hesitation" of the 7 speed DSG when pulling into roundabouts or needing a fast get away when emerging from side roads. This "problem" has been widely reported for the 1.2 TSI + DSG combination and I wondered if it was also a problem with the more powerful 1.4 TSI engine?

No problems with hesitation, just squirt and GO !!! The problem is more finess of power when making a fastish entry or take off at a roundabout , just a smidgeon too much throttle and you will get an adrenalin rush. I found it helped to take the foot off the brake 1 sec before wanting to move and this allowed the DSG to lift revs and move to the point of drive, the power then did not come in with a surge.

I have had no problem with hesitation, and although I do understand that the DSG needs time to operate, I have never made any allowance for this when driving. I find the combination of the 1.4TSI engine and the DSG transmission to be excellent - the car is a pleasure to drive.

I also find the 1.4 Tsi/DSG a delight (122bhp model) but I believe the 140/160 bhp models hesitate like you described......the single blower models are best IMO if you don't want squeals and hesitation.

I have the 122 1.4 Tsi DSG and in my opinion it is totally awesome! I have found the gearbox can be a little notchy for the first few low speed changes when the car is first started, but it is not an issue. Once under way you cannot even tell when the car is changing gear without looking at the display / rev counter. Go for it!!

I have the 160 1.4 TSI DSG and in my opinion is an excellent combination. The gearbox is very smooth with all its gear changes, and swaps gears very quickly to provide the optimum power requirement when needed. I have not had a problem with any hestiation or being in the wrong gear. However for a quick pull off I soon realised that with the DSG gearbox you need to slowly release the brakes so that the clutch starts to bite before accelerating.

The car is a pleasure to drive and faster than your realise.

VW has now got a new DSG tune that ups the 1-2 change over point. Practically eliminates the hesitation.

Mine had a clutch judder and had the clutch pack replaced under warranty. together with the new dsg software, car feels like new and seemingly stronger as well.
