Just thinking of buying a 3.0, Quattro Sport Avant with auto (I'm assuming Multitronic) gearbox. The car is a 2004, so one of the last of the B6's.

The car has covered 45k, and appears immaculate. Just wondering if there are any issues I need to be looking for, and whether the auto boxes are prone to any common problems??

Also, the driver's door is a little "notchy" to open and close, it appears to be a possible problem with the lower hinge. The door has not sagged at all, the hinge just doesn't open and close smoothly. Are the door hinges easy to replace??
    On Order

Ibis White, 2012 Facelift, 2.0 TDI, S Line Avant 177, Black Edition. 19" 5 segment Alloys, Tech Pack Hi, Silver / Black Super Sports Heated Seats.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the quattro cars with multitronic are better than non quattro. Check the cars history for gear box oil change.

Yep as Kite says if it's quattro and auto , it's tiptronic.
If it's fwd and auto , it's multitronic and you don't want one prior to 2005
The 3.0 quattro, sport, tiptronic box is much tougher and generally less problematic.
I had 2002 A4 3.0 qst saloon with low miles and the only thing I did not like apart from it being unnecessarily uneconomical, was the horrid way that IT decided which gear you were in at a set speed, even if you tapped it up the gears , and tried 5th under 45 ish it simply went back to 4th, not a fault just built in irritant.
On the whole a smashing machine but a bit juicier than it has a right to be.
