Hi all. Recently chopped a Passat 2004 in for an Audi A4 B6 1.9 Tdi 130. VAGCOM tells me the aircon switch is dud.

Regards replacement - do you have to drain down the aircon system prior to replacing it? I have been searching around and some say there is a valve that allows a simple replacement and some say the gas will escape.

Can you do this without removing the headlight or bumper?

    Thanks,

You can remove it without removing the headlight..

Just get a spanner on it and turn it half a turn at a time.

The sensor sits on a Schrader valve (same as your car tyres) so no gas (hardly any) escapes.

Thanks for the quick reply. So is it as easy to get the new one in as it is to get the old one out if the headlight is still in place?

£44 from TPS - that sound about right? I'm having trouble getting the part number for the exact one, so to compare prices.

Had the regas yesterday and the service showed no leaks etc, so I'm praying that it is this sensor as VAGCOM says and not something worse.

Its been around 3 years since I did it... (and im not 100% sure now thinking about it if you do have to remove it..)

But its only 4 torxs to undo if to remove the headligght.. 2 at the front and 2 at the back.. but dont remove the torxs from the rear, undo them around 8 turns and you can slide ethe headlight out with them in place.. (It makes it easier for when you put the headlight back in)

In regards to the part..Give Jason a call at All German Parts - He's a forum sponsor and also mention I sent you.

Unfortunately the one from Jason was the wrong one, but I sourced another one and it has cleared the fault codes on VAGCOM.

Unfortunately there is still no cold air. The economy button does not come on automatically now, so I am fairly sure that the high pressure switch did have a fault and is now ok. However, there must be something further wrong, and that must either be the condenser or the compressor?

Quite frustrating...I was hoping that the switch was the issue.

Further investigation; the condenser fan does not run at all. I guess that this is either the cause of the fault, or something is causing that not to run.

I unplugged the condenser power plug. There is a red wire and a purple wire going into the plug. Looks ok. There is also a corroded black wire that is cut off inside the wire sleeve. Should there be three or two?

    Thanks.
