    Hi All,
My Passat 2.0TDi 170 Sport 60K on clock, yesterday just as i was about to do the regen process - Light was on (motorway run) my glow plug light started flashing and the EML came on too and limp mode gutted. So this morning got it on to a recovery truck and dropped at my mates Specialist VW garage in hudds, (he used to work for VW) he is going to do the forced regen process and update the ECU software. but i would like your thoughts on a couple of things, done a search on here, something about DPF pressure sensor needs to be changed and also some mention of cleaning the EGR valave?? is there any thing else i need to mention to him? (he probably knows and may even be registred on this forum) will ask him later on when i see him..

One other thing i noticed is when i have been driving the car, now and then i get a weird humming noise from the rear of the car, (fuel pump was already changed by dealers under warranty) if i blip the gas pedal it dissapears for a second and then back again, i thought it might be something to do with the regen, but my revs stay normal and do not go upto 1k as they supposed to during regen, which it hasn't done for a while the car seems to lack the kick of a 170, but every now and then it will decide to drive like a 170, is there something wrong with the boost sensor..

these are just a few minor giggles it's got which i will get him to check out, but your input will appreciated and i can mention it to him.. thanks

Ask the garage to run a fault code scan. If no codes, ask for an engine measuring block scan. That should show up anything odd. The forced regen may not work. If a new pressure sensor doesn't sort it you may need a new dpf. I hope not.

had this on my 170 sport a while back couldnt regen because of limp home so i replaced the Exhaust Pressure Sensor g450 which was showing as fault then i done a forced regen which sorted the problem.

as for rear humming sound check the rear tyres on the inside for uneven wear could be the cursed sawtooth problem.

Thanks for the replies, will tell him to put the new exhaust pressure sensor in first before force regen, is this sensor different to the DPF pressure sensor?

The humming noise is still present when your stationary, dissapears when gas is given and on the move..

My mate had the humming on his 170, turned out he needed a new inlet manifold! Hope it's not that.

170's seem very temperamental, mine is the same. Just got used to it now..
