ran my 53 plate 2.0 fsi low on fuel, rushing home for kids!! next day no start off key, got 8 litres of unleaded threw it in, still no start off key, pushed it about 10 feet, bumped in 3rd started no prob,. obviously picked up some sediment from bottom of the tank, but why go off a bump and not off a key? loads of go and juice in battery. also when running its fine? i dunno baffled! going to change filter and remove sender from tank, is there anything else i need to do, thanks for any suggestions/ comments in advance

Picking up sediment is a common misnomer. Being plastic tanks, they don't corrode so there's no scale. Also, think about it, the fuel pick-up has to be at the bottom of the tank; and when driving the fuel is sloshing around so much the 'sediment' would be whipped up into a cloud.

More likely is that you have introduced a bit of vapour lock that will probably clear with driving.
