    Hi,
I've had my golf 2 days and am having problems already. Yesterday the glow plug light stayed on for about 5-8 seconds then when the light went out and i started it, it revved up to about 1500 rpm. Drove to work this morning all ok, drove home and the temp guage started moving then dropped down to nothing and the tried to move again and then stopped again as if the engine were stone cold.

I'm concerned as you can imagine. Could it be the coolant temp sensor as my MPG seems all over the place as well and i'm worried the car is duff and i've only had it 2 days.

    Please help anyone??

The Coolant Temperature Sender would be my first suspect as this can have a big impact on MPG and starting. A genuine VW one (green) costs about £22 from the dealer. A fault code read would probably throw something up. Worth doing anyway as you can check what the temperature is that the sender is sending to the ECU.

Have fitted a new sensor and all is back to normal again, until the Check coolant light came on today so i guess i need to top up a bit more. What is the correct procedure for topping up antifreeze??

    Thanks

I think it's neat G12+ straight into the expansion tank.
