You need to release the CV centre nut and the two lower arms which can be tricky without the special ball joint extractors.

I've got that far. I've removed the 14mm allen key bolt and pulled the wheel housing out of the way. I cannot get the CV joint off the end of the drive shaft.

You either remove the shaft from the car, clamp the shaft in a vice and hit the joint very hard with a copper hammer or buy VW tool 3207.

Hi, you can use the bolt from the driveshaft, thread it in to the cv joint till it bottoms out and turn it a few more turns with a socket, this should jack the joint apart, this worked ok on my 1996 1.8 turbo. good luck, by the way, you only need to remove the rear arm and put the steering on full lock, the driveshaft will pull out ok. How did you remove the front tapered lower joint as i have had huge problems with this, any one got any ideas?

A special tool from KLANN. Not all of them will come out by removing the one arm; it seems to vary according to year and model.
