    Hi all,

Recently fitted a new high pressure switch to my 2001 A4 due to the ECO light staying on! That fixed the problem with the eco but there seems to be a problem now with the pressure, as on re-gassing the system the pressure guage reads high as it would initially but then wont drop as if the system isnt circulating the gas??
My first thoughts are that the compressor might be faulty?! Do you have to run the engine on A4`s when re-gassing? Would it make a difference? Has anyone had similar problems like this before I splash out on a compressor?

    Any help most gratefully received.

    Cheers.

    Phil

You might want to look at your expansion valve/filter. I had one once that was completely blocked by debris from the compressor. This was a clue to change the compressor (and exp. valve and filter/dryer).

Thanks for the reply crasher. A technician at the peugeot garage where I work connected the car to his lap top, it showed a fault with the high pressure (now fixed) but shows no fault with the system even though the a/c isnt working. This is what makes me think its mechanical rather than electrical?! Should it show a fault if the compressor has failed?

    Thanks for the reply godfried.

Where do I find the expansion valve / filter? If there is a blockage does this mean that the compressor is U/S?

    Cheers

With my A6 it was in a coupling in one of the hoses that went into the firewall from the engine bay to the cabin. I think it is the actual firewall penetration coupling on the right hand hose, seen from the front of the car. It is only a tiny assembly about 2 inches long and 1/4 inch wide. The little filter is part of it and in my case was completely blocked with oily metal debris. I had to buy a new compressor. Although you can have them reconditioned by a specialist.
