    HI,

have just refitted the Gamma headunit and 6 dics changer into the Passat as I have removed the DAB unit to be put into another car.

I'd completely forgotten about the safe suystem on these units and do not have the Radio card as it didn't come with the car when I bought it. As far as I know it's the orignal unit fort he car (52 Plate 1.8T Sport) can anyone on here find the code from the serial numbers on the init or do I need to speak nicely to my local VW dealer?

    Thanks in advance

    Iain

I disconnected my battery and did some work, when I reconnected I was expecting to have to enter the radio code, it worked without, I have since discovered that the Gamma remembers the car it was installed in so you should have no problem!

Unfortunately mine has been out of the car since May and when I re-installed it yesterday it goes into SAFE and I don't have the code.

So it seem you were correct, even though when I refitted the radio last weekend it went in SAFE mode when switched and the fact I've been to my local dealer with V5, radio details and proof of who I am to get the code when I switched it on tonight to put the code in the bugger works - Typical - never mind at least I now have a record of the code to passs on to the next owner.

I've read this, but it still leaves me feeling nervous.
I need to whip the battery out to de-gunge the plenum chamber and I don't have the radio code.
Is it really guaranteed the radio will "remember" the car?

As Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry) would say, "ask yourself one question, do I feel lucky?"

OK then, I'm gonna go for it.

BTW, who do I sue if it all goes wrong on me?

fwiw I have had the battery off both of mine without problem. I had safe mode on the beta in my old 1998 passat, VW would have retrieved the code free of charge, but I had to cancel the appointment, never got around to rearranging.

Thanks all for that advice. I've done the job now and, as predicted, the radio did NOT need recoding.

However, on the down side, something else does. But that's the subject of another thread, (seemingly going nowhere).

    Cheers
