rear seat belts

i am seeking advice on how to unjam passenger side rear belt webbing on 2001 passat.the problem I have is that a childseat is stuck in situ. It isnt mine Dont ask Just trying to weigh up the pros and cons of replacing car seat £150.0, cutting belt and the replacement any ideas

Right this might sound really stupid, but you need to get the tension off the belt to allow the locking mechanism to unlock. Easiest way is to undo the buckle but that may be difficult. I've found that putting my weight on the car seat forces it into the cushion allowing the belt a little slack which helps. You might be able to get the buckle out then. Not sure if the belt locks if the seat isn't fully located back (like Mondeos) but might be wise to check that too. If they don't work then you may have to cut the belt.
