I still think it is part of the Parking Sensor package. I have seen enough evidence to convince me.

But I appreciate that it is not very clear and there is evidence suggesting both arguments are correct.

I think I have got to the bottom of the BMT issue though. The brochure says that Camera cannot be fitted with vehicles with BlueMotion Technology.

The pricelist says that Parking Sensors cannot be fitted to the BlueMotion model - presumably because it uses different bumpers.

To me this suggests that the Camera can be fiited on BMT cars - I have one sat on my drive for christ's sake.

It also adds evidence to me, that the camera is part of the Parking Sensor package.

Anyway, we'll agree to disagree and I'll let you know what turns up on my car.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

The latest price list 23.05.2011 lists under the Match spec: Parking sensors, front and rear - ultrasonic.
This does not include a camera.

In the past it was possible to order a camera in lieu of DAB, at no cost. It appears this is not an option at present.

Where is the evidence that a standard Match comes with a camera?
I think VW would advertise it, and mention in the price list and website, if they have suddenly upgraded the Match spec to include a camera.

To my knowledge, there is no version of the RCD510 that supports both DAB and a camera.
Do you have any evidence to the contrary?

If you think a standard Match has a camera, you can believe that right up to the point when the car is delivered without it.
Golf Match 2.0 tdi 140 Bluemotion tech, fogs, folding mirrors. Reversing camera didn't make it, so enjoying DAB.

Other motor is a Nissan Pathfinder.

I seem to recall reading somewhere recently that the Golf camera had been deleted until a new supply source could be found as the original item came from a factory destroyed in Japanese Tsunami.

I agree with you. Although I'd also think that as they describe it in the brochure they would also let you buy it. There is no option that explicitly describes the camera, though possibly it has been withrawn because of the Japanese Tsunami.

The thing I do know is that the Match I test drove had one and the GT that is sitting on my drive at the moment has one.

If they don't exist as an option and there aren't any because of the Tsunami then how did they get on those two cars.

Just a question that's all, I accept that I could be totally wrong - just trying to understand how I keep seeing cameras if they are not available. My colleagues Match is due in September so I shall know for certain then.

I don't really mind whether it is on my car or not - as you point out there is no option for 'rear view camera' so I won't be ordering one - I'll just get whatever is on the Match as standard - as you say I'll know for sure when it arrives.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

There are 3 things people are talking about and getting confused about:
Ultrasonic parking sensors: the little round things on the bumper.
Rear-view camera: pops out the VW badge on the boot when you engage reverse.
Park Assist: includes extra ultrasonic sensors on the sides of the bumpers to operate the electronic steering rack to help parallel park the car.

The rear-view camera is currently unavailable due to the supply shortages, but is mentioned in the brochure and is obviously fitted to a number of cars. This requires a radio with a colour screen, IE not the RCD310 or RCD210. It cannot be fitted with the DAB, I'm guessing there's only so many sockets on the back of the headunit. It says it cannot be fitted in the Bluemotion (not Bluemotion Technology) cars.

The parking sensors are standard with the Match (all versions). The reason that Park Assist is so cheap on the Match is that it is merely the addition of a couple of extra sensors and some computer programming. I thought that the sensors were not available on the Bluemotion, but the brochure says they're optional on everything other than the Match (where they're standard), and they are configurable on the website.

I thought the rear-view camera required parking sensors, but the brochure doesn't say that it does. The Golf 6 was in production for ages before the Tsunami anyway, and they might have had some spare stock afterwards already in Germany.

I've found that Park Assist is too dependant on various criteria being satisfied (eg stationary time before reversing, forward speed etc) to work every time as you might expect. As such I rarely use it unless I have plenty of time.

Front and rear parking sensors alone should help to prevent most mishaps

    Nigel,

To be honest mate its just a bit of a toy. For £90 I thinkyou have to go for if but my bet is after a few times you will never use itagain. I have a long test drive but Ithought it was all a bit to slow.
