ESP warning light coming on Passat TDI 130

I Have one of those intermittent problems where my ESP warning light comes on my VW Passat TDI 130 2002 coinsiding with a strange noise from the f/o/s wheel. I've also removed my Belly-Pan and noticed a thudding noise when driving over 65mph also coming from f/o/s wheel area & was just wondering if they are seperate faults or as a result of the ESP light coming on? Anyone help please?

If the wheels have suitable traction with the road surface, the esp should not come on. Should you skid or slide or lose traction with the road then i would expect the esp to be activated.

What could cause this wheel to lose traction or contact with the road?

Shock absorber? Bush of some type? Bearing?

These are what i would look at 1st.

I would also suggest that you check the likes of shocks / bushes etc.

Sounds as though the esp is working correctly as you maybe experiencing abnormal travel in the suspension, hence the esp light.

Hi,
I've a 2002 v6 TDE Passat and had an intermittent light come on warning no traction control. I changed the brake switch and have had no further trouble. Hope this helps one problem.

check ur abs sensor and o/s/f driveshaft plus the wiring from the abs sensor to the wheelarch liner
