Probably been posted a few times, but:

Are there any physical differences between the V6 TDi in its various stages of tuning??
Or is it just down to tuning level set by ECU?

The 180hp AKE has significant differences to the 150 and 163 variants. Turbo is same but internals are not. Did have a list somewhere but not to hand. Adamss24 is your man for the detail.

    Much appreciated FJTwelve ;-)
The more I deal with the AKE engine type - the less I like it!

The AKE has stronger rods and pistons with lowered compression ratio, also the gearbox oil is cooled trough the radiator. There are different size nozzles between salloon/avant and so far the allroad uses the biggest nozzles, 3 plunger pump (so it's the avant 180Bhp) and full alloy intercooler for more boost- it needs it because it's a heavy barge ! The allroad also has a fuel cooler but uses the same oil cooler as the rest of the 180Bhp line-up. The turbo fitted to the 150/163Bhp is a Gt 2050 and the one on the 180Bhp is a Gt2052. Different trims on compressor wheels but hot side is the same across the range. The turbo ending in S has been fitted to the sports models and its the best for top speed allthough the allroad one has better pick-up at low revs- ends in F. Gearboxes are also different between models and the allroad one is designed to pull stumps, never tried the low range gearbox but the stock one is only designed for pulling- i know mine does not break a sweat !
