    Hi All,

I would appreciate it if anyone could inform me of the engine oil I require for my Golf m4 1.9 SDi. The VW codes for the oil are VW 505.00, 505.01, 506.00, 506.01, and 507.00 (Wikipedia). So would 5w30 fully synthetic be ok to use.. Please correct me if I am wrong.

My car has covered 160,000 miles so should I be changing the oil every 5k because my car has high mileage. Your help would be much appreciated.

Given the high mileage it might be better to use the higher viscosity 505.01 10W-40 oil which is commonly called the P.D. oil . I know yours is not a P.D. engine but the higher viscosity will reduce oil consumption slightly and help maintain the oil pressure. Most Oil outlets will stock this oil and is cheaper than the 507 spec 5W-30. If you do a significant number of short journeys then changing the oil at 5K will be beneficial to engine life but if you do mostly longer journeys where the oil can get up to working temperature for long periods and the engine is in good condition then changing at 10K will be OK.
At least you don't have any turbo to worry about.
