    Hi,

I am really enjoying my new Golf Match, what a car! I have a question tho. I have noticed the engine bay and underside of bonnet are not painted in the body colour (Black), they are a matt grey, which could be primer? Is anyone elses car like this?
    Cheers
    Ian

I've just had a close look at mine and all the bodywork under the bonnet its sprayed Shadow Blue apart from a slight overspray on the bracket where the bonnet strut fixes to the bulkhead which shows the oversprayed blue on the white primer.

Yes but is it the same shade of grey metallic as the paintwork or is it a white like the primer?

Hi. My dealer had another car there that also had the grey underbonnet paint too. Both are 2012 models. It's a mystery eh.

I cannot remember when it happened but it was either a build week 46 or build week 22 last year they started doing this.
As i spotted it and asked VWuk. I was informed unofficially this was due to issues covering the under bonnet areas and wing edges (which my car suffers badly and i have a ongoing case with them with) so they changed the way these locations were painted on newer cars.
    Shadow blue GTI 5 door.

Although my car is Carbon Grey metallic, the underbonnet areas are painted in a different shade of non-metallic grey. Like SnoopyG, I'd heard that VW had started painting the underbonnet areas grey, irresepctive of the exterior paint colour.
