My PD 150 has developed greyish black smoke recently. I have changed the fuel & air filters but this has not made a difference & I get dark clouds if I boot it...
The fumes smell a bit pungent on idle too.

I have checked coolant and oil & they look fine in colour...keeping an eye on oil levels but have not noticed any drops yet.

No fault codes showing at the minute. I cleaned out egr last year which was fairly dirty at the time. The turbo does boost as normal and car doesn't really feel underpowered but I have been taking it easy to prevent clouds. My turbo was done 50K miles ago & the oil changed every 5K.

Is it possible this could be a boost leak even though it does not feel low on power and sounds fine while running?

Any ideas please guys.....cheers in advance.

Hi, sounds like a boost presure air leak. Try looking at boost presure pipe next to turbo. Good luck.

Probably a small split developing in the air pipes resulting in over-fuelling.

Turned out to be a boost leak as the lugs on one side on the lower intercooler pipe were kinda non existent. In fact I wonder what was holding it on!! So a new pipe later and the smoke has reduced a lot. :-)

I've noticed though that the exhaust are fumes are still quite pungent...hope this clears up it seems to smell a bit odd.

    Cheers all.
