My gearchange feels a bit 'clunky'. Car has done 101k and you can hear the gear change (at low speed hence less road noise). I'm thinking of draining and refilling so here come my questions!:

    1. is there any special fluid to use? Can VW tranny fluid be used?
    2. how much?
    3. Where is the filling point?
    4. drain plug is likely to be on the side somewhere?

When i drained the Corrado fluid it was from the side drain hole and filled by removing the selector tower and filling via a funnel & hose, about 2 litre iirc.

    TIA

Best post up your gearbox code so folks can help with oil grades & fill point.

You will most likely need to get the correct drive bit for the drain & fill plugs as Audi like using non standard patterns for giggles.

Lastly, check the fill plug isn't ceased BEFORE draining the old fluid to save embarrassment.

Should be on the build-sticker in the spare wheel recess and inside front cover of the service manual.

I think the transmission codes take the form of 2 numbers and a letter but am prepared to stand corrected.

gearbox cod is HES and according to ETKA uses the same fluid as the Passat. Just had a look in the bay but really cant see how or where to fill it from. Also, is htere any way to check the level, it may just need to be filled up slightly. Is there an issue if too much fluid is filled in the gearbox?

Interesting......my A6 has covered 84k miles and although my gear change isn't exactly clunky, just maybe I'm thinking not quite as smooth as it once used to be. This is something I considered myself around 6 months or so ago, but never got round to, still consdering it, so I'll be tuning in here to see how it goes.
I'm looking forward to a complete write up with pics showing / explaining the entire procedure in great detail.....It'll be a nice add on to the "How to's"...

I have tried several fluids claiming to be the same spec and the gearbox was still notchy.
i then put in genuine fluid and it was like butter.
