    hi!
As some of you may know! ive just put a deposite down on a 2005 140bhp 2.0 tdi avant off a trader!
when i viewed the car! there was no problems with it what so ever after extensive reaserch on it apart from a horrible rattling noise comming from the engine suppecting it was an a c pump issue. but today i phoned the trader for an update and he said its turned out to be the oil pump and turbo costing him over £1500 witch he said he'll do! he's taken it to a place that seems genuine (ive checked the websight and phone number) and will give a 2 year warrenty on it!

ok all fair as well, turns out the trader has lost money on the car but as he says ''its part of the trade''

he said the nosie was the oil pump and the nosie went away as it gave up the ghost! my question is, could there have been any further damage if the oil hasnt been circulating? when i get the car it could be all fine sweet but my consern is if there are any futher problems?

I assume you meant oil pump... Your description changes half way through - Fuel pump to oilpump -
All depends on whether the pump actually failed or was just noisy due to 'slack' chain drive known on early BLB engine.
Audi modified the drive mid '06 model year to gear driven rather than chain. Early engines have to have a new balancer shaft unit plus a couple of other gears and is no easy replacement. The parts to do this are £1000 alone. There is a chance your car has been already converted and just requires an another oil pump - slightly worrying. What also is slightly worrying is the new turbo you mention. That could be a sign of past oil starvation.

I would get him to finish the car. Ask to see what was replaced. Get another extensive drive in the car, preferrably from cold. Watch how quickly the oil light goes out on first start, and listen for any unusual noises. etc.
Anything your not sure about - walk away. Plenty more fish (as they say).

thanks for the reply! and yes sorry i mean oil pump!!

only problem is im travoling 300mile to collect the car (600mile round trip), he said he would refund my deposite if i wasnt too happy be in his favour i suppose, tho if i wasnt, i would have spent 50 quid on fuel just going down there and bk! suppose i will have to take a gandies down there no matter what happens.

when u say sign of past oil starvation, that would only happen if the pump is knakerd? coz if the pump wasnt circulation properly? would of easly killed the turbo before killing the engine if that makes any sence?

also how long in seconds does it take for the oil light to go out on first start?

ok! its having a oil pump, turbo and chaine replaced, aparently thats what all it needs and will have a 12 mounth warrenty on the parts!

im on two minds now, ive really fallen for this car and the price is right, my heart says i dont want to walk away.

is the pump likely to go again soon? i dont do mega miles, in fact i do about 9k a year so it may not go again in my lifetime of owning it?

im going down to review the car, check the engine over, and if she sounds and drives sweet! ill pay my money and take her providing this pump wont need doing????

Just replacing the chain might not be enough.. :-[
If the the chain sprockets are also worn, it will eat through the new chain in short time.
Trouble with this is that you cannot buy the crankshaft chain sprocket type anymore. You can only source the later spur- gear crankshaft drive. This also entails getting rid of the chain drive and converting it to gear drive. To sum up changing the balancer shaft unit with oil pump. (see my original reply).

was suppose to have her today but something went wrong!

i got a phone call last night from the trader to say he's had the car back, but after the work was done, the whole dash board was all lit up, oil light glow plugs etc! and after reading the horror storys, common sense should say it was a good time to pull out :-(
he also has a B6 sport 1.9tdi avant so i suppose i'd go down there to view that and also see what was going on! anyway got down there, view the B6 and it was a nail! however the B7 the one i was origanally going to buy with this issue was also there. looking rather sexy!
the trader said he wont let the car go with the dash lights lit up and wants the car 150% before sale, witch seems pretty decent of him.

we started the car up and it was running abserlutly bob on, the bad rattle has gone but the engine management light was on, and the little reader display in between the clocks was going mad, oil light and oil pressure problem, so we drove to audi, he bought an oil sensor, took it to his local garage to get it fitted, bit of a bonus for me really, while the car was on the ramps, i was able to look underneath. no word of a lie but it was spotless under the car, u could eat your dinner off it witch is quite unusaul considering it has 115k on the clock! you can tell the work was carried out because the sump looked band new! once the sensor was replaced, the car was pluged into a computer, reset all the fault codes, compleatly cleared the the lights, tho as soon as we drove off again, the reader display started bleeping saying something about the oil pressure! the car has done about 300 mile since the work was done, surly the engine would of blown up by now??? so the car has gone back to the garage were the oil pump, turbo and injector was done and ive walked away with my deposite back absulutly gutted :-(

i dont kno what to do, the dealer seems genuine. he doesnt want to sell a dodgy car, the car is strait as a die, i can see that myself, i hpi checked it and come back ok as well as vin numbers, and the v5 cetificate number matchers, it has full audi history, cam belt chainged etc, it runs beutifully, no noisers knocks etc and the body work is spotless! as for this common blb engine fault, its getting delt with at his expence with a receapt & 12 mounth warrenty (even tho its been done at the other side of the country from were i live) but is it likely to go again in a hurry? or is it one of these that goes evey 100k?

this is the car i can only dream of! 05 reg black a4 avant s-line 2.0 tdi 140bhp, and its going for 6k witch is all i can afford, not going to find another one like that for that kind of money! im gutted, was really looking forward to having this car

You will find another one mate - just need to be patient! Take the time to get a bit more money behind you as 6k on a car that's questionable will seem like a lot more than 7k on a car that runs perfectly.
