Allroad canbus

I hope this isn't a silly question, but I'll never know unless I ask...

Would my allroad (May 2004 build) be canbus wired, or did canbus only come in with the C6?

Theres a good chance it is. Are you looking to change the stereo or add a H/F system?

No, I only wondered from the diagnostics connector point of view. Is there an easy way to find out whether it's canbus or not?

using VCDS go to auto-scan and in chassis type choose auto detect (can only) it is works then you have CAN BUS

i don't know when they changed to canbus or if they changed it on the C5 chassis

This is where my limited knowledge of canbus, diagnostic leads and VCDS stops stumbling and falls flat on its face.

I had assumed, in my ignorance, that if it was canbus equipped you'd need a different lead to the one used on a non-canbus car.

On the basis of that erroneous assumption, my first thought when I read your reply was how can you tell if it's canbus by running a scan if you don't even know what type of connector to plug in because you don't know whether it's canbus or not.

AH Ok, I also made an assumption all leads could do CAN BUS so this may be not so, I have a lead that does both Canbus and ye older type HEX-CAN Lead (same lead), but I had to pay for it, perhaps if you only have a limited cable then it may not give this canbus functionality.

Your allroad uses dual K lines for diagnostic and controller programing. It does have CAN-BUS too but only for inter-controller communication.
