Which wheels will fit to my Golf Plus?

I've just bought a 2011 Golf Plus and thinking of getting some steel rims and some winter tyres before the snow arrives.

Does anyone know which wheels will fit and also which tyre would work best with the Golf.

I'm also buying a new Golf Plus, and will be looking for winter tyres and wheels when it arrives.

I believe that the new Golf Plus uses the same size wheels as the Mk V and Mk VI Golfs (but that the Mk IV Golf wheels are different.

Recent tests suggest the best performing winter tyres are the new Goodyear UltraGrip 8 and the Continental WinterContact TS830. I have also seen advice that it's best to fit a narrower tyre for winter such as the 195/65 R15 (on matching steel wheels) rather than the 205/55 R16s that come on the SE alloys.

I am surprised that you haven't had replies to this question before, but the forum seems very quiet compared with my present Skoda forum (www.briskoda.net where there is a thriving membership dealing with questions like this!

Yes I agree a narrower section gets a much better grip.

Don't forget to tell your insurance company when you fit them (and it keeps them happy if you can show you are fitting tyres and wheels that are the same size as those ftted by VW such as the 195/65 R15s on VW spec wheels.)
