    Hi

I have replaced the brushes from my fan and this seemed to fix the problem for my b5 audi a4 avant 2000 but only lasted a month or so.

I took the fan apart again and noticed that the copper-contacts that the brushes touch are broken in some places.

Also noticed whilst manualy turning the fan when powered also noticed some burning from that area.

Any help on the matter is greatly appreciated

You may have to take the armature out( the part with the windings on it) and test with a meter to see if the windings haven't burnt out probably cheaper to get a working fan from a wrecker.

I had the same problem with my B5, new brushes worked for a couple of months but the commutator was so worn that the fan motor eventually gave up the ghost.

As suggested by Brandon, the only reliable fix is to replace the motor. I opted to buy a new replacement for about £40 from GSF as most motors from breakers of the same age are going to be in a similar state so may only be a temporary fix.
