We have a BKD engibned 55 Passat here, it's failed to proceed once or twice at junctions, and more than a few times now has seemingly not recognised the key. We have codes P1570, and 02811. I've read quite a bit on here relating to the steering lock motor and microswitches, also of course faulty keys and the key socket on the dash. What's the general concensus of opinion, the fault occurs with boy keys, so I think a new key is unlikely to be the cure, the dash socket seems the easiest option next, but I suspect that needs recoding by VW,Is that the case or is there a process we can follow here? If it is a simple immobliser fault, why the steering lock code? Or do we have two seperate issues here?
Any pointers would be much appreciated. Many thanks Andy.

Sometimes it can be cured with a new ignition socket but sometimes it requires a new convenience unit which has to be done by someone with the necessary systems, even I don’t have the kit to program these, I give it to the dealer.

Thanks Crasher, you're just the man I hoped would reply. Does the socket require any coding? We have a Snap-On Solus scanner which is bang upto date if it helps. I'm not sure it will though.

The new socket does not require any coding, I cannot yet do coding of the convenience unit myself and I am certain the Snappy cannot do it. One point though, the Passat 3C never came with the BKD.

Hi have you diagnosed this problem? I have A 06 passat 1.9 tdi which had problems, I would put the key in the ignition and all dash lights would light up and on the last push all lights would go off, sometimes i had no lights at all "completely dead" other times it would start straight away it just got worse to were it could take up to an hour for it to connect and start. If this sounds like your issue please make contact.

Hi i found the guys on Ebay they are from Poland they have a garage in Northampton, i was a little unsure to take this chance, But im happy i did. They was really professional you could see they had done this plenty of times before, they gave me a 12 month guarantee with this job, "very happy", They had the computer plugged in and told me of other faults "1 plug was shot" and they said no more "which if it was another garage more then likely they would have told me problem and started selling me parts etc" i had to ask them if they would fit new plugs, which they did £20 for all 4 plugs and £20 to fit. When i drove home i had that feeling like when you first purchase your new car "grinning from ear to ear" Which believe me i had never had a good feeling with this car.
I have there phone numbers for you + if you want to find them on Ebay type in "Passat b6 steering lock problem"
here is there numbers 07729652119 07922478662 ask for Darek or Kristofe
    I hope this helps
    Scott
