Not quite as easy as some peoples experience.

Yeah you are correct, I've tipped off a few mates who've rang and got the dunno nuffin about it mate answer, I think the correct course is to open up with....hello I'm ringing in respect of the VOSA safety concern regarding Passat 2.0 PD models circa 2005-2008 and would like you to replace all four and the loom as I've been advised by VOSA, that should get the ears open.

I have to say my experience was smooth, I delt with 3 people, Lorraine,Jenny and iirc David and the whole thing never hit a bump.

Here's a bit of self help, open your bonnet and look at the engine cover, if it's shaped like this //// you have a CR and are NOT affected, if it's PPPP it's a 170 and possibly bad, or IIII which is a 140 and deffo bad.

Yeh, after lots of ifs and maybes I think I'll fill the VOSA form.

If by !!!! a configuration of fake piping on the cover like [][][][] then yeh it's like that, and I'm also 100% it's a 140.
Do you (or anyone) know where to find the engine code on the car?

    Thanks for the reply.

EDIT: Just found the engine code in the service manual and it IS BKP

That is a 140 then, and it will be one of the bad ones, so your £90 should come home safely.

Well car went in on Monday, got another vague VW employee who gave the line of "it must show a fault" and "I shouldnt believe everything I read on the internet!!" I stopped short of telling him I was a 39yr old police sergeant who had quite a grip on real life but anyway!!

Got a call later that day stating four injectors and a loom would be fitted and I could pick it up Tuesday which I did.

As other have said it feels better to drive and the MPG shows a higher reading so overall happy.

Thanks to those that made the effort and posted on this thread although VW really need a kick up the ****. This should be led by them as a recall not us making a racket.

    Cheers Stuart.

I think they will eventually Stuart, I reckon and it is only a theory they are tooling up for the Tsumami wave of customers they are going to get once it all becomes common knowledge, expect an Honest John article any time now as well.

Its that sort of smart a--e attitude from the dealers that moved me away from VW. The service staff deny everything when they know full well the BKP engine is a disaster area, they know about all the faults and recalls yet treat you like an idiot when you mention them. I know all dealers are like this in many ways, but like I said previously VW really took the award!

I've gone back to vauxhall, with no warranty. Seems to be an uphill struggle to get anything done under warranty with dealers anyway so I thought I'd take the risk

Passat currently in VW Gatwick for this work to be carried out.

Spoke to Bev, James and Jenny at VW CS who assured me that there would be no quibble over the cost.

On first taking the car to the dealer, they seemed unsure on the latest development over this issue, so thinking mine may be the first to be done there.
The diagnostic took 2 hours (i waited there), and a team of engineers, a service manager and service host all seemed to be involved - I guess this may have been the point at which VW CS got involved to authorise the repair.

It's a shame, my '55 sat is only on 41k and running very well, still getting in excess of 55-60 mpg and very quiet in cruise.

It is a good car and I am loathe to change it, but if VW hadn't authorised this I would have done, as it is such a potentially dangerous and expensive fault.
It could serious devalue VW and the Passat marque.

I can only imagine VW are getting into gear for a recall, surely they cannot risk their name and have a 'Toyota style' shadow cast over their name with a fatality ?

Well, proof is in the engine, so will keep you posted on the result.
As a precaution, from 2 previous posters, I also asked that the cambelt tension is verified correct after the refit of these parts is effected.

Are you relying on the trip computer for your MPG figures?

Mine looked like it was doing 7MPG more than before, but filling the tank and resetting the trip odometer confirmed it was exactly the same as before.
