My Passat went in today to Wayside St Albans, who were first rate. Didn't try to find other jobs to be done. There was a 'mix up' over a courtesy car, but i was loaned an employee car. Thanks again to everyone on this forum who have contacted Vosa and applied pressure for a resolution.

Mine went in at 8 am this morning, and I was told initially that VW wouldn't replace any injectors unless they had failed. Suggested to them that they might want to think again, and contact Jenny at VW to see what her take was on the subject.

Got a call back at 1130 asking if they could keep my car over the weekend so that a senior technician could look at it, and to give them time to contact VW - so, I will know nothing until Monday.

I will update as soon as I can, but I am going to be without internet for a wee while as we move to the new house tomorrow, so please bear with me if I go 'mute' for a bit.

    Lang may yer lum reek!

Got my car back yesterday evening.

Just to clarify I have not had any injectors fail but after contacting VOSA by email VW customer services had agreed that my local dealer would check the injectors FOC and if they were the ones that could fail they would all be replaced FOC along with wiring loom. Mine is the 56 reg 2.0 TDI 170PS (BMR) engine.

All 4 injectors and wiring loom were replaced and car is as smooth as ever. Managed to speak to the head mechanic who told me VW had recently issued new guidelines (technical service bulletin?) outlining the acceptable and revised tolerances for the injectors and although mine were working fine they were outside the acceptable tolerance (failure soon?) and hence were all replaced.

Work was done at Citygate Watford and they were as helpful and professional as always - never had a problem with them. They did not charge for an MOT and even waived the fee for diagnosing the faulty parking sensor.

What a coincidence, Wayside St Albans left a message for me on my mobile saying they would like to speak to me about my car (purchased car from them 3 years ago). Wonder if they are being proactive (i.e. trying to get more warranty work).

Thanks to the helpful post 228!!

I rang VW customer services yesterday as I have the BKP engine on a 57 plate. Eventually got through to a man and asked to speak to Jenny or Lorraine he asked if I had a case number and I said no, but told him I had been given their names by VOSA.

Ah, is this the Passat injector problem he said. So he took my details including preferred dealership, gave me a case number and told me I would get a call early next week.

I will wait and see whether I am one of the lucky ones.

It's really not down to luck.

If your car has the suspect injectors (hardly likely that it won't) they'll take it in and swap them over.

    That's it really, it's what they're doing.
As others said, VW are being good with this, but the real heroes are the people who did have the problems, the breakdowns and the big bills.
It's their persistance and tenacity which makes it relatively simple for people like me to get a problem which didn't yet exist sorted out FOC.

    I'm eternally gratefull for that.
I'm also gratefull to the various arms of VAG UK for doing the right thing.

    Well done to all, really.

    Hello

I took my Passat, an estate 170 bhp 2006 plate to have some work done on the tail gate.
The registration plate lights stopped working and it turns out they are covered in rust.
I contacted VW in Chesterfield to have the car serviced and to look at the rust.
It turns out the rust on the bodywork is part of a 6 year warranty so they did it on Wednesday free of charge.
They gave us a courtesey car.

I mentioned the car had gone in to limp home mode and that when I called the RAC out to help, the RAC man mentioned it could be the injectors, which is what I told VW Chesterfield.
I received a call last night from VW and they asked to keep the car so they could replace all 4 injectors and the wiring loom. It would be free of charge.

Very pleased that the engine won't suddenly conk out on the motoerway, which is what happened a number of times to a Peugeot 406 I had.

Injector won't cause limp mode, it simply dies on you, sounds like you have another problem there I'm afraid, if it went into limp when you were accelerating hard it's possible you had a turbo overboost, cheap solution to this is to go for a long drive keeping your speed up and giving it a welly every now and again to shift the carbon out of the turbo, you normally will get lots of black smoke coming out of the back as well until it clears. hth.

This happened to my 55 plate 140 sport about 8 months after I bought it, driving along the car just died and on the display said "engine fault garage" AA couldnt tell me what was wrong so towed it to dealer, cost around £1500 for 2 new injectors with harnesses.
I happened to bump into an old friend who's actually a technician in said garage and he reckoned the problem was with the harnesses carrying oil into the injectors.
Anyway car had full service history when I bought it at 3 years old and 58K miles and other than that I've had problems with central locking not working on drivers door sometimes, one of the rear electric windows works intermittantly, boot sometimes wont close i.e. just pops back up when u close it and water in front footwells.
Would be a nice car without these problems but don't think I'd buy another VW next time.

Hi, i think you are spot on there. The guy in service who dealt with me said they although they get paid at 'Trade' rate by VW, it certainly 'didn't do business any harm!'. Mine doesn't have too many miles on it (31,000) and felt smooth to me anyway, but it actually feels more responsive and smoother delivering power now. MPG seems very slightly better on two regular routes today.
