If it is from the batch but the dealer says it doesn't have the markings then I will obviously discuss with VW when I get the call. VW are being very proactive once you are in the system and it cannot be long before a recall is announced.
Presumably if there is a recall then VW France will have to look for you, although I guess they are not bound by VW UK. One would think that VOSA would have something to say on that?

I've written to VW France, who tell me they've talked to 'head office' (notre maison mere), and they say there's no reason for a recall. I'm now writing to VW's boss in Germany. Needless to say, there are a lot of unhappy owners in France. We shall see. Not sure where I'll go after that, I think there's a French equivalent of VOSA, but like a lot of French consumer bodies, it may well be toothless.

Went into dealer and it is booked in for tomorrow PM for the check. As it is a 57 plate with BKP engine it falls into the category.

HOWEVER, my dealer tells me that even if they are within the batch they will not be replaced unless they also have a unique marking along the side.

Has anybody come across this criteria?
Even disregarding that criterion - and earlier stuff posted about exceeding specified parameters or whatever - can't they normally tell these things from the engine code/chassis number and that sort of thing?

Ie, shouldn't they know which cars are fitted with injectors from the bad batch without having to actually inspect the motor?

So can anybody explain to me why 16 miles after leaving the VW dealership for 4 new 'goodwill' injectors and loom fitting, the cambelt pulley bolt has suddenley slackened off of its own accord destroying the top half of my engine? they say they havent touched it and "its just one of those things".Do such crucial parts work themselves free after 80,040 miles of driving without a problem? hell, its almost like it had a self destruct timer on it! the dealership did offer to refund me the money for the recovery which i did find a little strange... Of course theres not a lot i can do about it now.Previously my own mechanic has replaced 2 injectors without a problem and believe you me if i could have had the new set of injectors delivered to his garage i would have had him do the work.Anyway he's now set about rebuilding my engine now but cash wise, its made the 'goodwill' injectors a tad pointless...

P.S. I've also been told that when changing injectors on the 1.9tdi you DO have to slacken off the cambelt pulley but on the 2.0tdi like mine you don't touch it.Just out of curiosity can anybody confirm this for me please?

As agreed with VW Customer Service and my local VW garage last week, I brought my Passat for inspection this morning.
Got a brand new 2011 VW Polo 1.4 (700 miles on the clock) as a replacement vehicle and now I'm awaiting their call back.
    Fingers crossed.

This bad batch thing seems a bit of a PR to me, iirc every 140 PD Passat B6 has the same injector model from 05 - 08.

The guy with the cambelt trouble, that stinks to me, I would say the mechanic got confused about the process, slackened the bolt and then realised he didn't need to and either didn't or forgot to tighten it back up, after 80k there is no way the bolt will come undone, had it sheared off that would be right, but to drop out on it's own after that time, no way.

That is why if they are replacing my injectors in the near future I am having the cambelt/water pump replaced at the same time. My car is 4 years old at the end of the month and in my mind I was 90% certain I would have it replaced. There are now 2 instances on this thread of a cambelt failure following injector replacement, so I am now 110% certain I will get the work done at the same time.

Cheers i wish there was something i could do to take on the dealership concerned but it takes time and money to take on the big boys, and seeing as my car is a taxi and therefore my livelihood, they aren't a luxury i can well afford right now.Have e-mailed watchdog detailing the situation though. Will have to wait and see...

It looks like the Dealer is trying to avoid all liabilty for causing the problem, that is stating the obvious. Forget what probably happened and try this.

Hand deliver a letter to the Dealer principal. State that the Dealership owed you "a duty of care" whilst it was working on your injectors and that if it hadn't slackened off the bolts, then should have noticed that in the vicinity were bolts that had slackened off.
As it has failed to protect you, inform that if you have to pay for the remedial work you will claim the amount back from them through the Small Claim Court. That will make them think again. If they wont play ball then actually issue proceedings. I would imagine the Court would find in your favour.
If you are successful, mines a pint.

Just picked car up from the dealer and they have confirmed my injectors are part of the faulty batch. It goes in next week for 4 new ones plus wiring loom, plus cambelt and water pump.
The value of this site cannot be underestimated as one first might find out about these problems in lane 3 with no power. Thanks to all those that have done the spade work.

From what I can piece together VW are very close to an official recall on this matter. If they do it now the supply chain will not cope with the immediate increased demand for the parts. The correspondence people have put on here from VOSA mentions " agreements with VW following detailed negotiations"
I think that agreement quite simply is that if people are "concerned" then VW will replace immediately in return for VOSA allowing them to hold off the recall at present. But you have to present yourself to VW via VOSA however you choose to do that.
Whether this is morally correct people will have different views upon, but the bottom line is that if you have injectors from the faulty batch they are likely to go sometime or other, better to get them replaced sooner rather than later.
I hope for the benefit of everybody that this recall is fairly soon.
