Looks like this is a common problem, my fuel flap will not lock even though the car is locked. Whilst getting my tyres changed at Audi I asked them to look into it but they advised that as the car has done over 60K miles they would charge just to investigate at £100 / Hour, if they could not find the problem then I would only need to pay half that! So £50 to tell me they don't know what's wrong!

I have read elsewhere that the solenoid tends to go, part number is 8K0 862 153 E for B8 2008 S-Line, does anyone know how to replace this, any guides etc would be most appreciated.

Its a known fault on early cars so ring Audi UK and have a go at them. The dealer should put some sort of contribution if they are half decent.

At least you are lucky it broke when unlocked! Mine wouldnt unlock which made filling up interesting.

I agree with jakerade and would have a go at Audi, if the dealer will not play ball.

My recently departed A4 (B8) had this problem twice and both times I could not open it resulting in me having to force it open, breaking the lock in the process. The first time was under warranty so no problems, the second time was at about 70,000 miles. It may have been that because I bought the car from the dealer and they had serviced it from new I had a favourable hearing, but they actually changed the solenoid for free given that it was a repeat of a previous problem .

Be nice to them and just remind them that this is a very common problem, just look back on past threads for confirmation.

    Good luck

Yep, pull out the recessed storage area on RHS of boot and gently pull on the red plastic chord which should be sitting at the back of the recess

have just done this job this morning and took me 15 minutes to do
the part number you require is 8k0 862 153 f ( about 15quid inc vat from audi)
huge thanks to member headache56 for the info

you need to look for the torque screw, undo it then there are four indentations in the plastic housing next to the rubber stops, poke a small scewdriver through them and gently move driver up for top fixings and down for bottom until this plastic is released.this will come out complete with filler cap to reveal the offending solanoid! remove fit new and hey presto job done!!
if you break the plastic housing this can be bought for again less than 15 quid from audi

my car also has above the 60k miles and alough is less than 3 years was advised it was out of warrenty

pm me or member headache56 as he was able to help with a drawing of removal im sure he will try to help you.

please post up with your success

My 08 plate had the solenoid replaced under extended warranty recently. They picked up the fault while something else was being fixed. I hadn't noticed, so I guess mine wasn't locking.

Happy its fixed, but it now gives out a loud annoying clunk everytime I unlock the car.
